We are pleased to share the 3rd edition of our ProtectFish project’s newsletter, highlighting the project’s progress and achievements over the past six months.
As ProtectFish celebrates now 1 year and half of research, our partners have continued to advance scientific research & strengthened collaboration with stakeholders. Bringing us closer to our goal of protecting river fish populations such as the Grayling.
In this edition, we bring three interesting stories illustrating how field work, ecological modelling, predator ecology & river morphology studies contribute to a deeper understanding of freshwater fish conservation.
We begin in southeastern Poland. Where our teams carried out hydraulic measurements in the San River to underpin a predictive grayling habitat model. Then we turn to Vienna, where dialogue with the European Anglers Alliance (EAA) helped bridging science and stakeholder engagement. Next, our Czech partners presented new research on how the common kingfisher’s breeding ecology influences predation pressure on riverine fish.
