After six months, we can now look at what we have done so far and what we need to achieve in the coming years. ProtectFish has a strict focus on achieving better protection of river-fish throughout the EU. The poor status of most river-fish populations shows that action is needed at many levels.
We have had a good start, but with some problems related to extreme weather and to acquiring the needed permissions to carry out the fieldwork. The project infrastructure is in place, the website is launched, 3 PhD-students are working hard in the project and most of the fieldwork (fish sampling and cormorant scaring) is in full swing.
As coordinator I’m pleased with the commitment and effort from the partners so far as well as with the public interest in our project. I am certain that threatened fish will be better protected after this project.
